Deal Lead: Anne-Marie Birkill

Background

Peak3 is a Queensland-based company focused on the reduction and monitoring of emissions in mines: the primary focus is on nano and ultrafine particulates from diesel engines, however dust and other emissions both in mines and other industrial/above ground settings are secondary targets. The company has developed emissions reduction hardware (Particulate Reduction Technology – PRT) and emissions monitoring software and processes.

The market need for these solutions is driven by both an immediate regulatory requirement and a bottom line economic driver i.e. the need to reduce operating and maintenance costs in mines. Peak3 is targeting installation of their systems on a number of draglines and underground loaders by EOY 2012.

Our Partnership

This investment is OneVentures' first in the Clean Technology space presenting an exciting opportunity to support a company that addresses pressing and environmental and health concerns.  OneVentures will work with Peak3 to finalise product development, complete first commercial trials and develop and exploit markets, initially in the mining industry.

OneVentures’ First Clean Technology Investment for Underground Mining Environment

by OneVentures Administrator | Feb 01, 2012
OneVentures Innovation Fund has invested in first clean technology to support Peak3, a company based in Brisbane, to commercialize services and products for the treatment, management, and monitoring of particular emissions in diesel engine.

The emissions in diesel contain 41 toxic compounds, posing health hazards to underground miners. The current solutions like catalytic converters and filters do not control the smaller particulates efficiently.

Peak3 is aiming to achieve the standard for the mining industry’s end-to-end emissions management and offer precise monitoring services and equipment to agglomerate the small particles, which can then be captured by companion devices.

The Federal Government has honoured the potential technology of Peak3 and awarded a Commercialization Australia Grant of $866,284 to Peak3. Peak3 technology has the capacity to control the emissions of diesel above ground and to observe and control other flying particulate matter.

Anne-Marie Birkill, the General Partner of OneVentures, stated that Peak3 technologies have the capacity to provide productivity, environmental, and OH&S advantages to the mining industry.

Peak3 also has research contracts with the Queensland University of Technology and CSIRO, along with internal technical potential.

The Federal Governments and the Queensland have given significant financial assistance to the company for making mine emissions monitoring and reduction technologies.
